Real Friends Album Review
“After six years, Real Friends released their fourth studio album Blue Hour. This is the first album the band has released independently and featuring their new vocalist, Cody Muraro. Blue Hour explores heartbreak, loss, and self-discovery. This album showcases the bands growth while remaining true to their pop-punk roots.
I Was a Deer Caught in Your Headlights
The album opens with an acoustic intro, foreshadowing the tone for the entire album. The lyrics focus on the aftermath of a long-term relationship, capturing the sense of emptiness that lingers after a breakup. The spoken line, “When you hung up, four years ended in one second,” is a powerful choice, emphasizing the suddenness of loss and the struggle to reclaim one’s identity post-relationship.”
Imminence Album Review
“The track dives into the complex fear of leaving this world and being forgotten by those they are leaving behind. Imminence opens the track with a string instrumental that creates an atmospheric and sorrowful melody. As the track progress, the beat transforms into a heavier sound with powerful guitars and drums to create an intense atmosphere. Our protagonist is struggling with the fear of leaving this world without a legacy for those to remember him by. “Please don’t forget me,” and “Call my name,” are repeated throughout the track, indicating the protagonist is begging to be remembered after death. “I know you’re there. Please call my name,” suggests the protagonist can remember those who are important to him and seeking to have the same remembrance.”
In Her Own Words EP Review
“The EP opens with Beg for More, which dives into the struggles of navigating a toxic relationship and how easy it is to become addicted to this type of relationship. The protagonist of the lyrics expresses the suffocation they are feeling from the relationship, but their partner is unable to see their suffering. Using the repetition of “Even when it’s killing me I beg for more, more, more,” emphasizes the protagonist’s captivation by the relationship, and the struggle to break free. The band cuts the heavy lyrics with an infectious and up-beat melody throughout the song. Listening to the song for the first time, it was easy to forget the heaviness behind the lyrics because of the music.”
